Have you got TREWYNs Official Number ? If you have that you may find a crew agreement at the National Archives Kew. 1920 numbers begin at File BT99/3537. A visit would be necessary to read a crew agreement, which all the crew sign before undertaking a voyage. Having found the Official number the file could contain several agreements over more than 1 year for the ship.

Best wishes

Thank you.

File BT99/3571 at the national Archives should contain some info on the crew of the TREWYN.

The Memorial University of Newfoundland have British crew Lists.

(See National Archive online leaflets.)

Maritime History Archive:

http://www.mun.ca/mha/index.php

Click on ON-Line Crew Lists (top right) for:

http://www.mun.ca/mha/holdings/searchcrew.php

& put in Official No.

I have posted an answer to you on the site for HMAT MEDIC by mistake ! Sorry for that folks !

I was reading what the latest was there,as you are involved in that too and the threads have a bit in common. Replying here with your father's name and details would be best !

Putting in Official No. 142577

gets:

1920: E2

1921: E2

1922: E2

1923: E2

1924: E2

1926: E2

1927: E1

1928: E2

1929: E2

1931: E2

1936: E1

1937: E2

For 1923 & 24 there are no Logs, only Crew Lists.

I took a look for your vessel TREWYN at the NA today. File BT99/3571 had a sample of ships crew agreements for the range of Official Numbers which included 142577 (Trewyn's ON). As is often the case there was not a complete range of numbers present so yours was not there. You will have to take it that the NA doesn't have any Crew list agreements for your ship.

The University of Newfoundland may have some information though. They acquired a considerable amount of Mercantile Marine data from the UK some years ago,so I suggest that you take a look there to see what they have.

Sorry I couldn't find you information

Best wishes

Hi,

Does anyone have any info regarding the disappearance of the S.S Trewyn in 1916? All I have been able to find is that whilst passing Gibraltar from Algiers to Middlesbrough on 25th March 1916 it disappeared. A lifebuoy and other wreckage, but no survivors, were found on 1 April 1916.

Thanks

Rich

You may get some info from:

http://uboat.net

just in case they have a record of a U Boat sinking the Trewyn off the Spanish coast. They have a forum too.

You already know what I know, apart from the fact that the name rang a bell with me,and this because there was a thread in October naming this ship and wanting info about a crew man from the ship. There was no info mentioned about the sinking though.

Best wishes
