Simon R Posted 12 December , 2006 Share Posted 12 December , 2006 If anyone has access to the history of the 15th Hussars, could they look up Lt. Cecil George de Pree? Is he mentioned a lot/a little/at all?
espiegle Posted 14 December , 2006 Share Posted 14 December , 2006 Hi I have looked through the WW1 history by Lord Carnock and can find no mention of him, he is not in the list of officers who served with the regiment either. Any idea of dates when he served in the army? Regards Andrew
Simon R Posted 15 December , 2006 Author Share Posted 15 December , 2006 Thanks for looking. He served with the 15th as 2nd Lt. from 1895-1897 and was Capt/Temp. Maj. in Fife and Forfar Yeomanry at outbreak of war. Didn't think there would be much on him, just wondered if he was mentioned in passing, maybe in pre-war days in Ireland. He ended up Lt. Col. in Labour Corp. 1918. Thanks again!
espiegle Posted 15 December , 2006 Share Posted 15 December , 2006 Ah, wrong history! He is mentioned in the 1759-1913 one as follows: De Pree, Cecil George; was apppointed second lieutenant in the Cameron Highlanders on April 10th 1893, second lieutenant in the 15th Hussars on July 17th 1895, became lieutenant on January 4th 1896 and resigned his commission on June 26th 1897. He was the winner of Colonel Davisons Challenge Cup in 1896 at Baldoyle Racecourse on a horse called Living Picture. Full title of history is XVth (The Kings Hussars) 1759 to 1913 by Colonel H C Wylly, CB. Cheers Andrew
Simon R Posted 15 December , 2006 Author Share Posted 15 December , 2006 Very good! FYI, Cecil George De Pree was FM Douglas Haigs nephew. Thanks again!
