alliekiwi Posted 11 December , 2006 Share Posted 11 December , 2006 Hi, Macka. Would you be able to scan the back of that photo? Some of the people on here are really good at figuring out handwriting, and may be able to help you with the surname. Allie
delta Posted 11 December , 2006 Share Posted 11 December , 2006 Macka The first picture appears to shows a middle-aged subaltern in the Machine Gun Corps; his breeeches and shirt are pale and would indicate the photo was taken away from the front line; the jacket shows a great deal of wear and the bottom on his jacket skirt pocket is undone which means it is a snap rather than taken at a professioanl phtographers' studio. I would guess he was a TA soldier who was commissioned The second phot is (I believe) taken overseas, judging form the window frames etc. he UK; interesting dress in that there appear to a WO wearing a Sam Brown belt in the front row; I would guess it is a transport section of an infantry unit But I could be wrong! alliekiwi Posted 12 December , 2006 Share Posted 12 December , 2006 Strewth! That's a challenge! It's not 'Jim Andrew', or similar, is it? That first letter does look like an 'A' in copperplate script - that's about how I write the first letter of my name. (Except slightly more legibly.) alliekiwi Posted 12 December , 2006 Share Posted 12 December , 2006 My hubby - who is a doctor with the requisite bad handwriting, and ability to read other doctors' illegible scrawls - suggests 'Anderson'. Allie
