My Grandad was in two regiments during the was one reg was the Seaforth Highlanders and the other was The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders i dont know which order they came in i can locate him in the Seaforths but i cannot find anything at all about him being in the Camerons

His name was Benjamin Macleod from Altass, Sutherland, Scotland his DOB is 13/06/1896 i know he was wounded in one regiment and sent home he then joined the other regiment telling them he had never been in the army (devil for punishment) he was then wounded again and pensioned out of the army.

I would be most grateful if anyone could throw any light at all on this puzzle

Regards

Allan

There appears to ba a medal card for him in the Seaforths (with 2 service numbers) have you examined this? It might well give an indication as to whether he was discharged or not and some dates regarding entry into theater which would help your time line regarding which regiment came first. The service numbers might help here but I do not know enough to be able to date by those.

Another thing to consider - if he rejoined - did he use his real name (or a version of it?) If I were to rejoin I think I would probably not use my real name (maybe a version of it?) for fear of being discovered. Did he perhaps have a middle name he might have used? There appear to be a lot of MaCleods in the Camerons!

Here is the catalogue entry for the medal card

Medal card of MacLeod, Benjamin

Corps Regiment No Rank

Seaforth Highlanders S/10940 Private

Seaforth Highlanders 33907 Private

Date 1914-1920

Catalogue reference WO 372/13

Hope this helps - I am sure others more expert will weigh in!

Hi

Thanks for the reply but i do have this card but this card is very confusing as it says he was only in for a total of 17 days and this would not have covered basic training yes he had a middle name "Dawson" but i cant find anything on that name but it still might be there as i am no expert this is the first time i have done any research and was hoping someone would point me in the right direction.

Regards

Allan
