Can anybody recommend an inexpensive (for London :)) hotel or comfortable B&B within walking distance of Waterloo Station?

Yes, UJC is handiest - just over the road. Also Days Hotel on corner of Lambeth Road opposite Imperial War Museum. Two birds with one stone?

+If you are British military, ex Military or ex-MoD, the Union Jack Club is superb.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police qualify?

Royal Canadian Mounted Police qualify?

"The Union Jack Club is a private members club for serving and ex-serving military personnel of many countries, together with the emergency services such as police, fire and ambulance."

Union Jack Club is charging £50 per Night !!..so if you use it for 5 Nights thats a really Hefty £250 Quid.Whereas the Waterloo Hotel Runs to just under £100 for the Week, and it is even nearer the IWM.I know which option i would choose. :D

I suppose it depends what you want and what your budget is. I've got to go along with PBI on this one, and £50 a night is a bit steep for a place where you're going to spend much of your time sleeping. Actually, it really saddens me off that some of you lot have more money than sense. £50 a night!! £300 a week. Some big, roughy-toughy soldiers you lot would make. :(

Regards,

Dave

What about the Victory Club? Bit further away but not bad if you use the tube.

Thanks to all who have suggested places. I'm waiting to hear back from UJC about the RCMP angle.

PBI, when I visit the website for the Days Inn, it wants to charge me 99 pounds for one night next April. Where do you see the 100 pound a week price?

UJC will take ex military from anywhere, just show discharge papers on arrival. They need people cause forces are much smaller then when it was built about 1970. Be sure to check out the plaques in basement moved from old club. I've stayed there a lot, sure do meet interesting people in the bar.

Just been informed by Mr.Mruk, that the price in the UJ club does not include Brekkie, and is for a Single Room only.

My wife and I always use UJ Club if we stay in London.

It is superb: at least 3 star, with powerful Service overtones, and very high standards.

And it is not posh, but smart, all meals priced individually, in spotless surroundings and with excellent service.

The large bar is a cosmopolitan meeting place for people who would certainly be sympatico with those of a Great War interest.

Top class security.

Catch Eurostar 5 minutes away.

We paid less than £90 for a double last year. Serving military pay less.

Well chaps, the UJC is pleased to accept my reservation.

"You will need your Military Identification, Membership Card, or Association Card ie civil service, police id etc....with you to show at the front door on arrival for security purposes."

If anybody has any other accomodation suggestions for those who don't qualify for the Club, please keep replying for the benefit of others who may search in the future.

Thanks to all, Peter

Enjoy!: the entrance gallery with portraits of VCs is superb.

They also do a very good genteel 'English Afternoon Tea' meal, impeccably served and reasonably priced, also 'Early Dinner' for theatre-goers, in addition to meals at standard times.

Peter I really enjoy UJC and the people I have met there. The food though acceptable is what many people think of as old time English which some do not take as a compliment, though service is fine and I've eaten a lot of it, prices reasonable too. People must like to work there , I've seen people still there after a long interval.
