john in minnesota Posted 9 December , 2006 Share Posted 9 December , 2006 This is a WW1 badge according to Babins, but how long they continued to wear the badge I don't know...
laughton Posted 10 December , 2006 Share Posted 10 December , 2006 The 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles were in the 8th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Division. They were organized on March 15, 1915 and disbanded on November 15, 1920 (Stewart). The battalion served in France and Flanders with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifle Brigade from September, 195 until January 1, 1916 when it was reorganized and re-designated as the 4th CMR Battalion. 4th CMR on the CEFSG Matrix If you are looking for others, just check the Matrix Summary Tables: Matrix Summary Tables

Bill Alexander Posted 10 December , 2006 Share Posted 10 December , 2006 The 4th CMR badge was worn until approximately the Sanctuary Wood catastrophe in 1916. After that time the unit appears to have adopted the 4th CMRR cap badge. (The abbreviation reads 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles and the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Regiment respectively.) The badge was worn until the end of the war, when the 4th CMRR was stood down. It was perpetuated for a period of time by the Ontario Mounted Rifles of the Canadian militia. This unit had a badge very similar the 4th CMR, except the scroll was removed and replaced with one reading "OVERSEAS".
