PBI Posted 9 December , 2006 Share Posted 9 December , 2006 Do any of us Forum members sometimes get the feeling that our postings to Questions are totally ignored by the Thread Starter or by other posters.I ask this as on numerous occassions i have read through Topics and have found that 4 or 5 members have given exactly the same reply to a question..And in a similar vein, why is it that many of the Forum members can give a concise and accurate answer to a question with the Minimum amount of overblown literate posturing, but some STILL insist on writing reams of Quasi intellectual drivel, when in reality the Question posed by the Topic starter can be fully answered in a few sentences....Rant Over and Merry Christmas one and All....i dont suppose this Post will last long, before it is pulled. Stephen Barker Posted 9 December , 2006 Share Posted 9 December , 2006 I think that it's in the best interests of this superb forum to concentrate discussion on Great War themes. That is its strength and what makes it a unique place to come and discuss our interest. The lesson of the recent discussion about content amongst members is that if the forum is to maintain its high standards then we should aim to be tolerant of each others' contributions. For I have no doubt that the vast majority of postings on the forum are thoughtful, constructive and positive. Let's value what we have. Ken Wayman Posted 9 December , 2006 Share Posted 9 December , 2006 I suppose it's why some people during their lives rarely write as much as a postcard while others write books. Some write, short, concise books while others write............ We each have something to say, we don't all manage it in the same way. Vive la difference! kevinrowlinson Posted 9 December , 2006 Share Posted 9 December , 2006 I'm still learning and read nearly all the posts and threads. I wish I could be of more help sometimes, a recent post/threads that annoyed me http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...c=63500&hl= . I suppose that at sometime we all feel grumpy. For I have no doubt that the vast majority of postings on the forum are thoughtful, constructive and positive. Let's value what we have. Stephen I would agree with that wholeheartedly -- of course there are things that can p*ss one off (like having a great idea for a thread then doing a search to find it's been covered before, sometimes more than once), but I think that the topic poster in particular can put a word in to bring the thread back to the subject if necessary. However, that may not be easy if the questioner is totally new. But factual questions by their nature should get factual answers, discussions on weighty subjects tend to get weighty replies, with some pontification, and light chit-chat can go all over the place: just like any conversation, really. cheers Martin B
