Hi Chris,

Ray Westlakes "British Battalions in France abd Belgium 1914" says the following:-

The Regimental History records that the Prussian Guard attacked through Veldhoek (11th) capturing front trenches of 1st Brigade. Battalion at this time was holding a farm near Gheluvelt Wood and after heavy fighting was overwhelmed. Survivors - Captain Stracey and 69 men, moved back to Hooge (12th).

Have just seen your post Northern Soul re Scots Guards diary I am interested in this bn because wifes great uncle served in them until his death in March 1916. Have read them and found them very interesting and I am wondering if he was one of the first to go over to France.
