iain mchenry Posted 20 November , 2003 Posted 20 November , 2003 I am currently trying to help a Navy friend of mine based with me in Belgium. Her Great Grandfather (12194 Cpl Nathan Coucill, The Loyal North Lancs) is on the Menin Gate and through the CWGC website I have found out he died on 07 Jun 16. Could anyone tell me where the battalion was located at this time and what they were doing. If anyone knows of this fellow, I would be pleased to find out the approx location of where he died and how. Thanks Iain
iain mchenry Posted 20 November , 2003 Author Posted 20 November , 2003 Sorry, I should have added that he was serving with the 9th battalion.
iain mchenry Posted 20 November , 2003 Author Posted 20 November , 2003 Once again I have made a mistake Coucills death is actually on the 7th June 17 which I may presume had something to do with the Messines offensive. If so, where was the Battalion at the time of the starting of the offensive? Many thanks and apologies Iain
John_Hartley Posted 20 November , 2003 Posted 20 November , 2003 Iain One of my memorial researchees was KIA that day with the Lancs. You'll find my write-up on him here John
CROONAERT Posted 21 November , 2003 Posted 21 November , 2003 Iain. Here's the Regimental History's account for that day.... Dave.
iain mchenry Posted 21 November , 2003 Author Posted 21 November , 2003 John and Dave, Many many thanks for the help. I will now be able to take her up to the ridge and show her where her GGrandfather fought. Once again, many thanks. Iain
