Jarvis Posted 6 December , 2006 Share Posted 6 December , 2006 Can any one shed any light on the following chap. He appears on the local Roll of Honour as BUCKLE J R Captain. No Regiment or S/N available. The closest match I have come across is from CWGC BUCKLEY Initials: J F Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Captain Regiment/Service: Lancashire Fusiliers Unit Text: 3rd Bn. Date of Death: 03/03/1919 Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: B. 1479. Cemetery: MACCLESFIELD CEMETERY I am not convinced this is correct. I am hoping to find a match with some reference to Barnard Castle. I am assuming the rank to be correct (or close to correct) but still no success. Perhaps I can at least discount my possible (J F Buckley) with your help.

silkman3811 Posted 24 November , 2011 Share Posted 24 November , 2011 Hi Good news and bad news... You are correct in that the CWGC record is inaccurate - according to the National Probate records, Captain John Buckley, of 67 Newton Road, Macclesfield, died 23 February 1919 at Fort Pitt Central Military Hospital in Chatham. During the war he served with 3rd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and was attached to 80th Company, Chinese Labour Corps. After reviewing his medal index card the aforementioned date of death is confirmed. Interestingly, the address recorded on the card for his widow, Annie Louise Buckley, is 14 Kungping Road, Shanghai, China. Just to add to the confusion, he is identified as "J. F. BUCKLEY" on the Roll of Honour situated in Macclesfield Town Hall, but as "J. E. BUCKLEY" on the war memorial! The bad news is he's not your man but at least you can discount him from your research! cheers Steve Can any one shed any light on the following chap.
