DCM to the Devonshires

I have contemporary local press information that a DCM was awarded to Private Albert Bugler of the 9th Devonshire Regiment for his actions on 25th September 1915. He was just 17 at the time. He later won the MM in 1916. However, upon visiting his son this evening he showed me a personal letter written after the War that casts doubts on whether the DCM was ever awarded. Can any Devonshires buffs check this for me please?

Thanks!

His name is not in R Walkers Book recipients of the DCM Devonshire Regt Section looks like he was not a DCM winner

There is no mention of him receiving the DCM in the Devonshire Regiment history. However it does note his award of the MM

It may well be he was recommended for a DCM & with the introduction of the MM in April 1916 it was considered an MM more appropriate,I have found similar press reports/family letters to the papers in research of other such recipients.
