grantsmil Posted 6 December , 2006 Share Posted 6 December , 2006 I know it is not the correct dated piece but What Price Glory has Early P37 3-piece Mills Equipment Belt. Very similar to P37 web belt, but consists of 3 pieces that adjust in the back instead of the one-piece P37 belt that adjusts at the ends. These are unissued and dated 1940, adjustable to 40 inches, $25 http://whatpriceglory.com/ukweb.htm I bought some of these belts and found that some had no ink stamps showing the date, but were dated 1924 on the brass work, so probably a Naval belt. Might get you out of trouble in the short run.
John Thorne Posted 6 December , 2006 Share Posted 6 December , 2006 Is the back adjusting strap 2" wide? If so, then the straps Grant mentioned should work, I got some of these too and whilst mine are all 1939 dated, they are all NOS naval marked Pattern 1919. Also, I do have a Pattern 13 frog, from the New Zealand P13 gear, NZ and MECO 1913 marked, 2" belt loop, unblancoed. Not for sale but I'm looking for pieces to complete my pre-1914 Pattern 1908 set - email me if you are interested in a possible trade. john in minnesota Posted 6 December , 2006 Author Share Posted 6 December , 2006 John and Grant, Thanks for the tips - I'll have a look at the Naval belts from WPG. The bayonet frog sounds familiar... I believe I bid on a similar example on ebay several months back. Cheers, John
grantsmil Posted 6 December , 2006 Share Posted 6 December , 2006 John, does the bayonet frog of the Canadian P13 equipment have the press stud like the Mills commercial equipment sets? (The same as the Belgium web, or Naval P19 or Air Force P25?). The reason that I ask is that the belts I mentioned do not have the other part of the stud. WPG did have some sets of equipment they were calling P27, these did have the frog and three part belt which used the press stud. They have sold out of the complete sets, but still have some images: http://whatpriceglory.com/pic/P27set2.jpg

I'm a bit confused about the frog, I would have thought it would be designed to accomodate the Ross bayonet but the photo sure looks like an Enfield type. John Thorne Posted 6 December , 2006 Share Posted 6 December , 2006 Except for some minor differences in stitching and dimensions, and of course the date, the P13 frog that I have, and the other NZ ones that I've seen, are essentially the same as the Pattern 37 one. I've never seen a Canadian P13 one, but I believe that they are the same again. The dimensional differences are small enough to be, I think, within P37 manufacturing tolerances. You could probably use a P37 one quite well. The P13 frog does not have the press cap that the Pattern 1925 one has. The stud was made to mate to one of three studs on the waist adjusting strap (central part of the belt). The Pattern 1919 frog belt also did not have these studs, and the three piece belts WPG are selling are pure P19 and don't have them either. I've not yet seen a frog that was naval marked and that I could say was definitely Pattern 1919, but I would assume that since the belt doesn't have the studs then the frogs don't either. I did get a set of the "P27" gear - it is mostly Pattern 1925, with a Pattern 1919 e-tool/helve/water bottle carrier added, and the lower half of the rucksack missing. All of the bits in the set I got were dated 1927. I have been told that this gear set was originally made for export to Nepal, but I have no way to verify that. I'll see if I can find some pics of the P13 frog, or else I'll dig it out and take some.
John Thorne Posted 6 December , 2006 Share Posted 6 December , 2006 Sure enough, I found a picture. This is one that was on eBay recently - mine is about the same except that it hasn't been blancoed.
6th Hauraki KIA KAHA Posted 7 December , 2006 Share Posted 7 December , 2006 Sure enough, I found a picture. This is one that was on eBay recently - mine is about the same except that it hasn't been blancoed. Hi all The NZ P13 frog was designed to fit the 1888 pattern bayonet not the 07. P13 equipment was designed for Signals, Post and Telegraph Engineers and specialists, from 1913 onwards, I have never seen a photo of it being used outside of new Zealand to date. The ammo pouches are rare as, only a few people have them even here in New Zealand. I will post a pic, of a full set being worn by P&TC if anyone is interested.
