Hi all, hope you can understand this;

I thought i had matched a medal card to that of my g grandad but the more research i have done on the mother site about territorials the more i have muddied the waters.

A photo shows him wearing the Imperial Service badge- for territorials who served outside the UK- but his medal card indicates he went overseas in 1916.

First line battalions of the royal Warwick Territorials volunteered to go abroad in 1915 but those who did not joined 2nd line battalions and went abroad after the military service act 1916.Did the latter still qualify for the Imperial Service badge having not initially volunteered?

If they did then the medal card could still be grandad's, if not i think i'll pack it all in!

I think this makes sense-especially if read twice.

It is of course possible that he volunteered to go overseas earlier and they did not send him - possibly used to train the Service battalion men or restrcited trade.

The Imperial Service Badge was granted to those who had undertaken to serve Overseas in time of War,not necessarily those who went immediately,with their respective Battalions of TF.
