gordonpower Posted 6 December , 2006 Share Posted 6 December , 2006 International rules dealing with the treatment of prisoners of war were laid down in the Hague conference of 1907. The subject of work and prisoners of war was dealt with under article 6. 6 - He (the prisoner) must be treated with due regard to his rank and age. If he is an officer he cannot be obliged to work, and, if an NCO (Non commissioned officer), can be obliged to work only in a supervisory capacity. A working prisoner must not be made to work longer hours than a soldier than a soldier of his captors’ army and must be paid the same rate of wages. He can not be required to do work which is directly concerned with the captors’ war effort Most of the guys I seem to come across who did receive pay (1915-16 period) got paid 3p per day for Agricultural work and lads in factories about 6p. I must point out however that many fellows said they never were paid
