Guest Michael Hall Posted 1 December , 2006 Share Posted 1 December , 2006 My late aunt’s boyfriend was a member of 59th (2nd North Midland) Division and was sent to help crush the Easter uprising in 1915 and his Division was ordered to Ireland on 24th April and he sent her a postcard saying that he was sailing for Ireland on Thursday 3rd May 1915. I presume he was killed as there seems to be no other mention of him. Is there a list of men killed in Ireland in that uprising? I only have the initials EHD or ELD but, at least, I could search such a list for a likely match.

Just checking - do you mean the 1916 Easter Rising? regards doogal
PFF Posted 1 December , 2006 Share Posted 1 December , 2006 Have you tried the MCI {Medal Index Card Index} at the UK Archives? Searching to catoluge is free-but downloading a card cost $. Possibly with Initals and Division ID-- Also try the Regimental Museum. Lastly CWGC
MelPack Posted 1 December , 2006 Share Posted 1 December , 2006 Hello Michael You will find the source for your research on this thread: http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...;hl=1916+Rising Regards Mel
MelPack Posted 1 December , 2006 Share Posted 1 December , 2006 Michael Having re-read your initial posting it is highly unlikely that your man was a casualty. The Rising had been suppressed by 29th April 1916. He must have been part of the reinforcements of the garrison already in Dublin.
