Yes, I'm a newby and don't dare go on live chat!

I have been all over the site but am from Canada and will not be going to your National Archives anytime soon.

I am just interested in any comments anyone might have.

My greatgrandfather's nephew (raised as a brother) send him the typical postcard with his picture in uniform and it gives his info, 3rd Bat., 1298(not sure whether ends in a 2, 7 or what) and H.O.Y.L.(again, not sure of last letter), Machine Gunner, Hull.

It was posted February 16, 1915. He would have just turned 19 in March and was raised in Saltaire, Yorkshire.

Looking at the info on-site, I am not sure whether he would have just been in 3rd reserve or 3/4th or whatever. I am assuming East Yorkshire.

I hope to attach picture of his number and in his uniform.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Jo

Thanks so much!

I did go to the Archives before posting because I read medal cards were available but got confused when I arrived.

I also assumed he hadn't gone anywhere and therefore wouldn't have any medals.

I am curious as to why so many battalions never went overseas when they continued to recruit?
