Guest Michael Hall Posted 28 November , 2006 Share Posted 28 November , 2006 I have a postcard picturing the Lusitania in Liverpool and, on the reverse, it is addressed to my late aunt M. Hall (I believe; May) in Cardiff and it reads: 2/2 North Midland Brigade RFA 59th Division Kingstown Ireland Liverpool Thursday Crossing to Ireland tonight Cheerio EHD (or could be ELD) Write to me address On the postal franking, the only words legible are Liverpool and May Do the initials mean anything to anyone? Does anyone know where Kingstown is? Does anyone know when that Brigade first went there? I presume they would not sell postcards of the Lusitania after she sank which was 14.10 on Friday 7th May 1915 so I presume he could have been on board but, if the Brigade had been in Ireland the previous May, it could be then but, again, I don’t know how often she sailed as I presume she was continuing on to America. Chris_Baker Posted 28 November , 2006 Share Posted 28 November , 2006 Hello Michael Kingstown is now called Dun Laoghaire. You might find Sir John French's deaptch on the Irish rebellion useful: http://www.1914-1918.net/frenchs_ireland_despatch.htm

wig Posted 1 December , 2006 Share Posted 1 December , 2006 The artillery played a decisive role in the Irish rebellion. Do you have anything else, photographs, medals, diarys etc? Take a look at these two stories of troops of the 59th division in Ireland. http://www.derbyshirelads.uwclub.net/Men/fc_dietrichsen.htm http://www.derbyshirelads.uwclub.net/Men/aa_dickson.htm wig
