WhiteWolf Posted 27 November , 2006 Share Posted 27 November , 2006 Hi Pals Here I go again Are the archives Yorkshire Post, Yorkshire Observer (think that’s what it was called) or any other local publications that covers the Leeds area available on line? Cheers Andy
Guest mruk Posted 27 November , 2006 Share Posted 27 November , 2006 Hello Andy, Not that I am aware. Most of the resources I use are held on microfiche in Leeds City Library, but it would make things a lot easier if the papers were scanned and copied on to disk at some stage. Cheers, Dave

Guest mruk Posted 27 November , 2006 Share Posted 27 November , 2006 Everything's long-hand with me, but it would make an interesting project. The trouble is, Leeds City Council is too busy diverting money elsewhere, and never anywhere where it's usually needed. Cheers Dave

Cheers Andy Andy, We have a book called The Somme written by Robert T Foley and Helen McCartney, purchased the book from The Folio Society. There is quite a good piece in the book regarding the Leeds Pals quoting an article in the Yorkshire evening Post dated 18th July 1916,giving out the names and addresses of a number of soldiers. If there is any name in particular you are after, please let me know and I will see if his name is in our copy of the book. regards Joan

At present I am compiling a data base of all (with a bit of luck) the lads who were issued a service number with the 15/ prefix. Thanks again and Regards Andy
Chris Noble Posted 3 December , 2006 Share Posted 3 December , 2006 Hi Andy/Joan. Joan, is the list in the Y.E.P a list of casualties incurred on 1/7/16? If it is, the Y.E.P contains months of casualty lists and requests for information. Andy. Your best bet is the Yorkshire Post (thats the morning paper) between the 5th and 9th September 1914. The paper contains a list of 1,275 men who had volunteered and was published in 4 parts. Regards, Chris.
