sotonmate Posted 25 November , 2006 Share Posted 25 November , 2006 Members, Whilst it is fresh in my mind I raise the subject of finding the cemetery etc that you seek with a bit more certainty ! I have noticed some threads here where members mention difficulties in this respect. I just visited around 25 over a widish area, some of which were quite small and tucked away. My brother and I found it difficult to locate a handful, and only by persistence managed to complete our itinerary. Some of the CWGC descriptions of location leave a bit to be desired for a rooky such as me. There is a mixed success in labelling the location, I found. It may be good from one direction, and and absence of indicators from the opposite direction. The smaller ones even defeat the locals, everything seemed a left turn or two away,on a fairly consistent basis,to such a degree that I did think that we may be a national sport !! I own a Garmin GPS and it would have been a lot easier if I could have entered co-ordinates,this displays a directional arrow and a distance from location. These devices are growing in popularity and it would have been so much easier to have been able to proceed in this fashion. I have to say that the whole experience was an adventure, with enjoyment of the terrain thrown in,but if you have a tight schedule it can be a bit wearing. Does the Forum think it worthwhile pursuing this subject.either by contact with the CWGC,or making it's own database,or merely advising me that there are publications which thoroughly and accurately describe the position of the whole CWGC estate ? Best wishes Sotonmate
sotonmate Posted 26 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 26 November , 2006 Members You have answered my question elsewhere on this Forum. I should have guessed !! If only I had seen: http://www.wo1.be/ before I left I would have had time for a bit more of a look round than the controlled rush I experienced in some locations ! Just in case YOU didn't know of this site.............. Well done the members ! Sotonmate
Chris Best Posted 24 December , 2006 Share Posted 24 December , 2006 If only I had seen: http://www.wo1.be/ And what a sight to be seen. I'm fear running out of space for favourite places I have been introduced to via the Great War Forum. But this sight is going on my Toolbar as a reference point.
