Guest KEITH SCOTT Posted 23 November , 2006 Share Posted 23 November , 2006 Iam currently reasearching all of those soldiers who served in the 1st NZEF who came from the Maniototo District in New Zealand. I am an apprentice military historian and would like to ask 2 questions 1. Would those who were posted to the Vetinary Corps be expected to be front line troops or just to look after the horses in camp? 2. Punishment for bad conduct on the files often just reads "C.B" Can anyone tell me what this means? many thanks
alliekiwi Posted 23 November , 2006 Share Posted 23 November , 2006 C.B. stands for 'Confined to Barracks'. Not any help with the other, though. Sorry, the vet services are not my forté. Welcome to the board. Allie
Captain Dave Posted 24 November , 2006 Share Posted 24 November , 2006 Hello, the Vetinary Corps would have been part of the support units that made up the Division. With such a heavy reliance on horses for rear area transport tasks, they were obviously very important. They would not have been expected to serve as front line troops at all. The vets also served with the NZMR in the Middle East, so depending on where this chap was posted to would tell you more about what he did. Allie Kiwi is also quite correct in CB standing for Confined to Barracks. How does one become an apprentice military historian? I'm just an amatuer! rodami Posted 26 March , 2007 Share Posted 26 March , 2007 But then on places like Gallipoli EVERYWHERE was in the front line. Similarly in France and Palistine, the Vetinary corp were there primarily to look after the horses and this involved being in the firing line at times, although not as much as the average digger. It would be interesting to know the casultiy figures for the vetinary corp Cheers Rodney
