Hi everyone,

I am trying to track down information on my great grandfather.

I would be extreemly greatful of any help.

The following is all the information I have. This I collated from his marriage certificate:

Name: James Arthur Jordan

Age: 24 in 1913 ( so born about 1889)

Rank: Corporal 3rd Coldstream Guards

Residence: Victoria Barracks New Windsor

I also have a medal card but am unsure of its info. Does it refer to my Grt Grandad? Why is he listed as l/cpl and prvt? What does the squiggle at the end mean?Doc5.doc

Richard,

As he seems to be the only J A Jordan of the Coldstreamers I think you have the correct medal index card.

It shows that for his war service and medal entitlement he rose to the rank of lance corporal.

He first entered a theatre of war on 12 Aug 1914, and qualified for the 1914 Star, British War and Victory Medals.

He also appears to have qualified for a Silver War Badge (SWB) which implies that he was wounded.

As he was a guardsman it is likely that his army service records are still held by the guards and a copy can be purchased (I think there have been recent threads elsewhere on the site about this).
