6th Hauraki KIA KAHA Posted 21 November , 2006 Share Posted 21 November , 2006 Does anyone know if the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade ever wore steel helmets or used rifle buckets during the Sinai/Palestine campaigns of 1916-1918? Hi Terry I have never seen a photo, or heard of them wearing Steel helmets in Sinai/Palestine to date. Mounted Signal Troop and Signalers used Rifle buckets, as they already had so much gear to cope with, let alone a rifle on the back, as in Heliographs and tripods plus all sorts of Signal gear. I have come across a few few photos of this. Maybe other Specialists as well. I heard you made it down to CHCH, and saw Barrys collection. Jonathan. TerryK Posted 22 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 22 November , 2006 Thanks Jonathan. I also have a couple of photos of New Zealanders with rifle buckets, who I think are the specialists you refer to. Yes, I did have the opportunity to visit Barry in Chch and see his wonderful collection of militaria - I am green with envy! Terry
