I know they were worn on the lower right arm, and some red and some blue. Does anybody know what the colours mean? The battalion I am interested in was in France from )ct 1914 to Oct 1919 and would like to know how many and what colour chevrons would have been worn. Ian Underwood Posted 16 November , 2003 Share Posted 16 November , 2003 There was a previous thread on this, but allow me to post this image of my Great Uncle's chevrons. In his case there's one blue chevron for each year he served overseas from 1915 to 18, with a red chevron to signify that he enbarked with the BEF in 1914. As red has the highest chromatic value of all the colours it appears almost black in black and white photos, hence it's harder to see than the blue, which has a much lower chromatic value, (sorry for the colour theory lesson ) ian.
