Bernard_Lewis Posted 17 November , 2006 Share Posted 17 November , 2006 Entry below relates to the MIC card of William Frederick King (no 558215) The MIC confirms Military Medal. The Corps was RE(TF)29th(1/1st London) Div Sig Co. Date of Gazette -No 63. Registered Paper 68/121/822. Schedule Number 239971. This has been sent to me by an acquaintance for translation - can anyone help confirm what the RE unit is so I can try and track down the War Diary reference and pass it on? Is it 29th RE Field Company? Wht does the 1/1st mean? Long shot but don't suppose any RE experts can add any info on the man himself or the units actions? MM in LG I'll look for myself. Can't leave you do all the work... Bernard
Stebie9173 Posted 17 November , 2006 Share Posted 17 November , 2006 It is the Divisional Signal Company of 29th Division, not one of the Field Companies. In the NA Catalogue enter 29 AND Division in the top box and WO95 in the bottom. Click top result and "Browse from Here". WO 95/2294 Divisional Signal Company 1916 July - 1919 Aug. The Gallipoli diary is either in hiding or not there! His number does fall in the range for the 1st London Signal Company. Gazette dates by number only are 1919 issues. Steve. stevem49 Posted 17 November , 2006 Share Posted 17 November , 2006 1/1st is 1st London Div' 1 Signals Coy. The other Engineer untis in 29th Div - 2nd (Lowland) Field Coy. 455th FC and 510th FC. If he was with them prior to Gallipoli then he would have spent time in Warwickshire. Kineton and Southam each had one company. Think the TF units were in Leamington from March. stevem

Bernard_Lewis Posted 18 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 18 November , 2006 Steve - thanks a lot for that -I've passed on all the info to date. I'm sure he'll be delighted (on Thursday he only knew there was link to the RE - now he's got a lot more to go on.) Bernard
mychess51 Posted 12 August , 2014 Share Posted 12 August , 2014 William Frederick King is one of my relations. Also I know another relative who is interested in information relating to him. Bernard do you have any contact details for the person researching this (or know what there interest was?)
