Mick D Posted 17 November , 2006 Share Posted 17 November , 2006 Could anyone tell me of anywhere in the above area that could keep one's better half and a 5 yr old daughter happy, whilst I visit WW1 sites. I am aware of the theme park near to Hooge ! Mick D

Hope this helps a little, Mandy
Mick D Posted 17 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 17 November , 2006 Mandy, thanks for your reply, I should have said I was going in April, I will have the car but I will be doing the driving, so anywhere my wife & daughter visit, I will be then visiting a WW1 site then returning to pick them up ! I am aware of the theme park near to Hooge ! Mick D Bellewaarde but take wet weather gear. - i got soaked on the numerous wet rides. Palingbeek - nice for a stroll in nature reserve.plus cafe Kids farm near Ypres. Oostduinkerke - coast and sunparks swimming complex.80 deg all the time. Earth Explorer - Ostend Plopsaland - Adinkerke Swimming - Ypres ( Kids park nearby) Menin Gate - turn right end of road on left. Cycling - lots of lovely routes - you could leave the car for a day and take in some cemeteries with them. Lots in out of the way places. easy cycling - even I can do it. Should get you started. WW1 and 2 Cemeteries near Oostduinkerke for you to look at. Thye could also have a tram ride towards either De Panne or de Haan. stevem
Mick D Posted 18 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 18 November , 2006 Steve, thanks for that, the things you mentioned (of which I was unaware) are the type of attractions I was looking for , many thanks. Mick D
stevem49 Posted 18 November , 2006 Share Posted 18 November , 2006 Steve, thanks for that, the things you mentioned (of which I was unaware) are the type of attractions I was looking for , many thanks. Mick D I have been taking my Granddaughter since she was 7 years old - She also loved sanctuary wood trenches and Hill 60 plus caterpillar crater on other side of railway. Bellewaarde and Plopsa land both have websites and cater for smaller kids. Now my GD is a grown up 9 year old! she prefers to help me in the cemeteries! We holiday on the Belgium Coast and can recommend - Sunparks water park and Plopsa Land. Also the bikes on the sea front. Nice chippy by sunparks water park as well. There are also a number of cemeteries quite close and the memorial at Nieupoort - you can actually take a boat from there to Dicksmuide. The Tower there is worth a visit as well. stevem
bruce Posted 18 November , 2006 Share Posted 18 November , 2006 Give her the car keys. Get her to drop you off at the beer farm near Lijssenthoek (nearest place to heaven I can think of!) She can pick you up when you have had enough! Bruce
salientguide Posted 18 November , 2006 Share Posted 18 November , 2006 As mentioned by steve morse I stayed with my family several times at the Sunpark Ostduinkirke just outside Nieupoort several times in the 1990,s. It is of the same set up as our CentreParcs, lots of chalets of different sizes for hire all mod cons. The central feature is a glass enclosed tropical swimming pool complex, usually about 70-80F waves, slides etc. About a 45 minute drive along a stright rd via Veurne (Furnes) up to Pop and into the area from there. Used to book it through Belgian Travel Service (Bridge Group) who would do you the package complete with Channel crossing. very reasonable prices out of main summer season. SG It is cheaper to book it yourself now - They have a website or you can phone and get an English speaking adviser. Book Ferry - Dover - Dunkirk - Norfolk Line - New ferries, no coahces, no foot passengers - closer to belgium. stevem
