benjones Posted 16 November , 2006 Share Posted 16 November , 2006 I am researching my great Uncle Sydney Harold Jones 70349 who served in the 7th labour company The Kings (Liverpool Regiment) and then transferred to 42842 72nd Comany Labour Corps. He was killed 24 th October 1917 and buried at Solforino Farm Cemetry Ypres. He also served in the Liverpool Constabilary before the war. My son and I visited the grave a couple of years ago and we are interested in details of how he was killed and what actions were current at the time. If anybody could help it would be a great help. If anybody knows how to research the Liverpool Constabulary this would also be a great help.
sotonmate Posted 16 November , 2006 Share Posted 16 November , 2006 BJ This was around the time of 3rd Ypres, the Flanders Offensive, covering 3 June to 10 Nov 1917. 1st Paschendaele had just finished (12 Oct) and 2nd was about to begin (26 Oct-10 Nov).Your subject would have been involved in a considerable amount of work between these battles as a Labour Corps man,and been open to shell barrages and sniping in the course of his duties. I cannot find any specific references to 72nd Labour Co at this time, but others here may be more au fait. In the matter of Liverpool Constabulary the archives are kept in the Liverpool Record Office. Write to: recoffice.central.library@liverpool.gov.uk to see what they have. To visit you may have to make an appointment to view documents. Best wishes Sotonmate
