Thanks Clare Sergeant The Sergeants (Sgt) of the British Army wear three point-down chevrons on their sleeves and usually serve as platoon or troop sergeants, or in specialist positions scott
clare bridger Posted 15 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 15 November , 2006 Sorry Scott I meant the 2 badges above the rank stripes. The green one (which looks a bit like a leaf or an acorn) and the one above that (on top of the shoulder). Thanks Clare
BeppoSapone Posted 16 November , 2006 Share Posted 16 November , 2006 The cloth badge is the dark green spade, spade as in playing cards, worn by 20th Londons. The metal badge is a shoulder title. Its too late at night for my eyes but I would expect it to read T over 20 over London. T standing for Territorial. Hope this helps.
BeppoSapone Posted 16 November , 2006 Share Posted 16 November , 2006 Forgot to say that there was a scheme to identify London units based upon playing cards eg 15 London - Yellow spade 20 London - Dark green spade 24 London - Red Spade Other London Regiments wore the other suits of cards in these 3 colours. Grovetown Posted 16 November , 2006 Share Posted 16 November , 2006 Forgot to say that there was a scheme to identify London units based upon playing cardsIf they were in the 47th (2nd London) Division. The green card suits scheme was for the 141st Brigade. Best wishes, Grovetown.
Charles Fair Posted 16 November , 2006 Share Posted 16 November , 2006 Agree with the pals above on this. Nice photo, I havent seen one of a member of 47 Div colour tinted like this before. I have a couple of pics of 19th London men with the ace of clubs knocking around here somewhere.

Earlier versions would have read COUNTY OF LONDON on the bottom tier. Keith

We always wondered why the badge on his shoulder was so green. Regards Clare
