Kookaburra Posted 15 November , 2006 Share Posted 15 November , 2006 Are there any members of the Forum that belong to this group in NZ. I went to National Archives in Wellington today and was told the big delay with ordering the WW1 Military files was because there are several group projects requesting the files. Apparently the Passchendaele group had asked for the files of all the NZEF men who served there. Is this group tied in with your project Jan? Kookaburra Posted 16 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 16 November , 2006 Hi Jan, Do you have photos of all the NZEF men in that huge list you have published on GWF? Cheers, Diane
greatspywar Posted 17 November , 2006 Share Posted 17 November , 2006 If a man is on the list, it means we have a photo of him. So far we have 2,717 photos... . all the best, Jan ps. I'm glad to hear that NZ are working on the Service records. I'll be needing them in some time soon... . Sorry for the delay caused by us in your research. Kookaburra Posted 17 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 17 November , 2006 I'm glad to hear that NZ are working on the Service records. I'll be needing them in some time soon... . Sorry for the delay caused by us in your research. You can be sure it is worth waiting for... No worries Jan, The Service records are on small strips of film and they can take several days to process if some of the film needs to go to conservation. From what I saw the Active Service Fatal Casualty Forms give you in most cases the description of the man plus his enlistment date and what occurred from the time he arrived overseas until his death. While there is this backlog at National Archives our group are using these records. I will compare the men on our list who died at Passchendaele to the men on your list to see if we have men with photos that are not on your list. I have checked my itinerary for our family visit to Belgium in July/August next year and we are visiting Flanders Fields Museum on the afternoon of July 31st and WW1 Passchendaele (Zonnebeke) Museum on Wednesday August 1st. I'm looking forward to the visit. Cheers, Diane
