John Gilinsky Posted 14 November , 2006 Share Posted 14 November , 2006 For Canadians some good news: "Oh! What a Lovely War" the 1969 Richard Attenborough directed musical movie of the early 1960s hit British musical play of the same name is NOW available in CANADA (and the USA)! I bought my copy yesterday and previewed it. The digital remastering seems a little bit off as the titles seem to be out of focus but otherwise the quality is okay. Ferguson73uk Posted 15 November , 2006 Share Posted 15 November , 2006 I watched my copy last night and I must say that the helicopter shot of the white crosses on Sussex Downs (?) was as startling as I remember. However, much as I enjoyed the whole film, I did notice that the Battle of Passchendaele ended in 1917 before the end of the Battle of the Somme in 1916 - a continuity error?? Jonathan Yes in all likelihood a continuity error. Imagine a British made film in the late 1960s by British persons at least some of whom probably still had some living relatives from the war and such an error occuring! Think of HOW the war will be remembered 50 or 100 years from now when NO ONE will be around to "tell it like it is!"
