Tom A McCluskey Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Remembering Today: The attack by the 51st (Highland) Division at Beaumont Hamel In particular the 6th (Perthshire) Bn, The Black Watch (TF); and the 7th (Fife) Bn, The Black Watch. They attacked and carried the Y Ravine after a vicious fight. Short of Officers and SNCOs, the soldiers and JNCOs of the 6th BW supported by the Gordons, and the 7th BW, took their objective. Wauchope describes it as a 'soldiers battle'. Padres Hunter & Gordon ensured that every missing soldier was accounted for, often under fire recovering their bodies. Beaumont Hamel Flag Staff: The Division carried the fortified village of Beaumont Hamel; and it is today that I wish to say a big Well Done to the Scotland (North) Branch of the Western Front Association who are placing a new Highland Division Flag Staff in the village of Beaumont Hamel - on this, the 90th anniversary. Good Effort Lads! Tom McC
