Her Majesty was busy yesterday - this link shows her in Hyde Park with a special appointment for Kiwis.

I can't find any photos, but I'm sure everyone's seen some - I have to say I'm looking forward to a visit soon. It looks an interesting and worthy memorial to brave men and women.

This memorial was featured in the BBC's coverage of the Cenotaph service today.

I really can't say I like it - rather like tank traps. Of course, it also features the modern "unfinished" look to the bronze and "naive" sculpting of the features on the faces of the memorials. The problem for a modern memorial at Hyde Park corner is the presence of the brilliantly executed sculptures from the 20's very close by.

That said, a memorial to New Zealand's sacrifice is very much to be welcomed and we sincerely appreciate those that came from "the uttermost ends of the earth".

I've seen snippets on TV here of it being erected and thought it looked a blight on the landscape myself. It's supposed to light up at night in the shape of the Southern Cross. I wonder how many New Zealander's even know what the Southern Cross looks like in our night sky. :)

Cheers, Diane
