Martin Bennitt Posted 11 November , 2006 Share Posted 11 November , 2006 Just wondering if there is any accurate figure for the number of WW1 survivors still alive. Eight in Britain (?), four in France, understand there are no reliable records in Germany but there is at least one, because Henry Allingham met him recently, 14in the US, according to a recent posting on here. What about other countries(ANZACS, Turkey, etc)? cheers Martin B

Martin Bennitt Posted 12 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 12 November , 2006 Thanks Tom It's not quite accurate as Maurice Floquet still seems to be on it. But there are more than I thought there were, even if some are unverified. cheers Martin B

Sbufkle Posted 15 December , 2006 Share Posted 15 December , 2006 I thought I read in the Globe & Mail in the november passed that 80 ish GW Vets are left alive. But amungst those are a huge majority of 33 of whom from Italy, yet most of them have no proof of thier birth or even service record. I would think now that article was hogwash just knowing how educated on the subject all of you are all in here.
paul guthrie Posted 15 December , 2006 Share Posted 15 December , 2006 The Veterans Administration in the US did say 14 recently, another has died, Moses Handy, 113, thought to be 2d oldest man in the world, supposedly last black US vet, truth is VA does not know how many there are, there has never been a central registry.
