SMG65 Posted 10 November , 2006 Share Posted 10 November , 2006 I read this book in a day - simply brilliant. If you want to get a real feel of the realities of trench warfare, in and out of the line, then this is the book. Many books talk about soldiers who disappear, but when you read of the disappearance of Lt PYM (PIMM on SDGW), you realise that soldiers actually did disappear. The tragic death of Lt SKETT, an example of the lottery of the Great War. Corporal ROBINSON, a soldier who you would have loved to meet. By the end of the book you want another book, telling you of the fate of the soldiers mentioned. You want to know every detail of Corporal ROBINSON and how he died. This book is not a stocking filler for Christmas, it should be the main present. Sean
George Armstrong Custer Posted 11 November , 2006 Share Posted 11 November , 2006 I've yet to read anyone who has disagreed with your conclusions on this book, Sean. Anyone who reads it applauds it - as can be seen by the earlier discussion of Rogerson's masterpiece: http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/i...showtopic=55625 It would, indeed, make a worthy 'main present'! Mick D Posted 12 November , 2006 Share Posted 12 November , 2006 I agree with the above, is there anything else like it? Mick D
Clive Harris Posted 12 November , 2006 Share Posted 12 November , 2006 The good news, if you can find it is there was a 2nd book of Rogersons that is far rarer and I don't believe has been reprinted. Some one might beat me to it but I wil try and remember the title.
