barrieduncan Posted 10 November , 2006 Share Posted 10 November , 2006 I'm guessing the name should be Samuel Thomas, in which case, could this be the chappy? http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documen...p;resultcount=
Guest KevinEndon Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Could I have a second opinion on Barrie's i.d. please. I have to do some work for a local lady on this chap and would hate to go down the wrong road and give her bum info. Kevin
Steven Broomfield Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Impossible to say for sure, but would fit with being HLI or Royal Scots: later in the war, I'd guess, so the latter regiment indiocated on the medal card. Incidentally, do the numbers indicate he was originally a territorial?
Guest KevinEndon Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 I am awaiting some more info from the soldier in questions niece. Fingers crossed she can give me some info as to his regiment. All I know is the niece is from Brown Edge Staffordshire. Her name is Watson if that may help a census check. I haven't a clue how to go about census checking. As for the terri number I don't have a clue on that either.
dycer Posted 13 November , 2006 Share Posted 13 November , 2006 Kev, Could be a Royal Scots Terrier Number. e.g. 6558 L/Cpl W Singer 8th Royal Scots was awarded to DCM as was 8629 Sgt A. Johnstone. 8th RS were a Pioneer Battalion and I cannot see the Pick and Rifle Collar Badge on the photo. Either the he was not a member of the 8th R.S when the photo was taken or belonged to a different Regiment. George
