Doug,

Many thanks, received the entries for the Piave crossing.

Also a thank you for Chris - I have actually spent a couple of hours in the IWM photo archive some years ago - ran out of time and need to get back there some day - but I seem busier since I retired than when I was working (allegedly) !

Hi Doug, :)

Could you please see if you have any mention of Captain Sidney John Sankey 6th Battalion South Staffs and if there is any mention of how he was killed, as I don't believe it was in action ! It was on 25-9-15.

Could you also lookup Lieutenant Arthur Joseph Bradney Shaw-Hellier,7th Battalion South Staffs, Killed In Action 9-8-15.

Cheers

Tim.

from the history of the 6th south staffs. page 79

"during the night the brigadier called and inquired if a patrol had been sent out from 37, and asked that it should be a officers patrol. sankey was commanding the company, billy lewis being absent on leave, and he sent nelson, a new officer, out. apparently sankey got anxious, as nelson did not immediately return, and took a look over the parapet. he was shot through the head.

what makes you think he wasn't killed in action?

Hi Enoch, :)

Thanks for the reply, it was just that in Officers Died it states Killed, and not Killed In Action.

Cheers

I am looking for detiails of a Capt Hitzon. Some folk reckon he was in the Sherwood Foresters but I have a feeling he was a 2/6ths man. He is the officer who took the surrender of Eamon De Valera, the rebel in charge of the Mount Street rebels who inflicted such damage on the Foresters.

There are two pages that give a brief run down of events in Ireland, mainly referring to the 2/6th.

I have the War History of the Sixth Btn South Staffordshire Rgt which has a whole chapter, tell me what you information you would like.
