Tony Lund Posted 9 November , 2006 Share Posted 9 November , 2006 There is the name B. Sanderson on the Netherthong Village War Memorial near Holmfirth, and I was finding it to be untraceable until I found another little memorial in the local working men’s club which names one of the dead members as Brook Sanderson and in brackets - Australia. Unfortunately I am still finding it untraceable. I have tried the Australian War Memorial but I have not been able to find anything. He does not appear on the CWGC website and I have not seen any reports that mention him anywhere yet. There is just those two memorials. I would bet that he went out to Australia and enlisted there at the start of the war and was discharged later and subsequently died. It must have been before July 1919 when the club’s memorial was unveiled. In 1901 he was a nineteen year old Woolen Cloth Cutter living at Netherthong. There must have been some reason for his name to be included, any ideas would be welcome, Thanks, Tony.

Tony Lund Posted 9 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 9 November , 2006 Many thanks for that. He joined on the 2nd February 1916 and they were discharging him as unfit by the end of the month. Tony.
John_Hartley Posted 9 November , 2006 Share Posted 9 November , 2006 Tony Yep - I read the file. Dunno what the medical condition is , though. I understood the shortage of breath while he was playing football. Wonder when he died? John
BeppoSapone Posted 9 November , 2006 Share Posted 9 November , 2006 According to his papers he had Mitral Stenosis, which is a heart condition. According to what I read he had probably had Rheumatic Fever as a kid: http://www.priory.com/med/mitsten.htm
