Charles J ferrige Liverpool Regiment

can anyone help me,

I'm researching a possible relative PTE CHARLES J FERRIGE,he served with the Liverpool Regiment No 20214, theres a few things i,m stuck on

First.... if this really is my great grandad his middle name should be "Joseph" born in 1875@ his address was a manchester one, Possibly 84 cawdor st , old trafford, HULME. Manchester

My mum said that he was sent home in ww1 ,and died 3 years later of gas poisioning, possibly at this address

I've searched the census and a few other sites, but as yet have not found a death certificate this needs more research which is on going

I've found a Charles J. Ferrige's medal card and on there is a SWB and a ref no H/401/2 or H/H01/2 is's not to clear which ties in with the family knowledge about him

the card should be attached as an attachment

Also the card only shows the initial J. theres no mention of his middle name there were very few ferriges in both wars so chances are it's the same man, his son was also a Charles ferrige born 17/9/1907 R.A.S.C no 14728829

Also theres something wrote in the top right corner any clues are welcome or anything else that can be used to build up a picture of him

If it is the right man I can't work out what battalion he served with.

I've had a look at the war Diaries for the liverpools but there really is to many batalions to check through

also if hes from Manchester why is he with a Liverpool Regiment???. the medal index shows him with the Liverpools In 1915 and I'm aware that this does'nt mean thats the regiment he first joined up -only the one that he served with for his medal entitlement. I think he joined in around 10th sept 1914 as a copy of his sons birth certificate (CHARLES) was requested for purposes namely "ARMY" maybe a form or proof of I.D with the date above

It's possible if it's the right man he originally came from Ireland and settled in the North-West and possibly came from Ireland to Liverpool, on the ferry, hence the Liverpool connection , He might of had freinds or family in that area,

Paul,

Firstly thanks for sharing so much information with us - it not only helps to narrow things down but makes the original posting more interesting to read.

I have checked my records and have found the following:

Charles Joseph Ferrige enlisted in Manchester on 4 September 1914. He was one of about 500 men from Manchester who were drafted to the Liverpool Regt and posted either to the 12th (formed September 1914) or 14th (formed October 1914) Battalions. Charles was drafted to the 14th Battalion and crossed to France with the Battalion on 4/9/15. He was discharged from the Army on 7/2/18.

All I have unfortunately but hopefully more than you had originally.

Best regards
