Ally Posted 7 November , 2006 Share Posted 7 November , 2006 Hi, I am trying to find details of one of my forebears who served in the British Forces, and was killed in WW1. I have searched the Commonwealth War Graves site and he does not appear there, but I realise that there are a number of soldiers who are not yet listed on the site. His details are: Herbert Henry JACKMAN born abt 1877/78 in Towersey, Buckinghamshire son of James Jackman and Julia Jackman (nee Bickerstaff) Believed to have lived at Isleworth in Middlesex when he enlisted. I do not know in which regiment he served, or when and where he was killed. He may also have fought in the Boer War. It would be really appreciated if anyone can point me in the right direction, or help me out with some information. Many thanks, Ally McRae, nee Jackman Bribie Island, Australia

cliff brown Posted 7 November , 2006 Share Posted 7 November , 2006 What you need now is a Notts and Derby expert to give you the lowdown on his service with 1/6th btn. As RSM he is likely to be mentioned.

As RSM he is likely to be mentioned. Hi Cliff, Many thanks for your reply, along with all the others who replied to my query. Most helpful. As you mentioned, I now would like a Notts & Derby Regiment expert who perhaps could help me with some details of Herbert Henry Jackman's service with the 1/6th Btn. (He was sometimes just 'Henry Jackman'). It is possible that he also may have served with the Sherwood Foresters in the Boer War, but I have not yet been able to ascertain this. Any scrap of information, no matter how small, all adds to my knowledge of my dad's cousin. Many thanks for any help anybody can give me!
