Remembering today my great uncle 8643 Private William Mallard 1st Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, killed in action near Zillebeke November 7th 1914.

He is commemorated at the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, Ypres, and the Hall of Memory, Birmingham.

I will be thinking of your Great Uncle today.

If you look at the 'Lest we forget' thread' I have listed a chap from my village who died today with the 1st South Staffs.

My thoughts are with them all today.

The South Staffs Pals meeting this evening duly raised our glasses to the men of the 1st South Staffs 7/11/14.

The South Staffs were remembered with honour. Roy was the master of the toast and conducted it well !!!
