Bernard_Lewis Posted 4 November , 2006 Share Posted 4 November , 2006 The local press reports that RH will be giving a talk on his book 'Tommy' at 7pm on Tuesday 21 Nov 2006 - admission free at Swansea University. I've e-mailed the uni (via a contact) to see if I can tickets for my wife and myself. Bernard

Ferguson73uk Posted 7 November , 2006 Share Posted 7 November , 2006 I 'phoned the History Dept. yesterday. No need to book and no tickets issued. Just turn up. See you there, Bernard! Jonathan

Bernard_Lewis Posted 16 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 16 November , 2006 I've now been asked to propose the vote of thanks and present Prof Holmes with a copy of my book 'Swansea Pals'! Haven't been so happy since Scott Gibbs crossed the line against England at Wembley a few years back (grand daughter incidents excepted). Ferguson73uk Posted 22 November , 2006 Share Posted 22 November , 2006 Superb lecture by Richard Holmes at Swansea University last night! I thoroughly enoyed it and your book was presented to him with aplomb, Bernard. 'The best book written on the First World War' was high praise indeed! Bernard_Lewis Posted 22 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 22 November , 2006 Thanks Jonathan! I enjoyed the talk and I didn't realise that the audience could hear what he said (they were clapping)! He did say what you quoted so: Either he's read it before and thinks its brilliant! or (more likely) it was said with good humour! I should have said 'its the best book on the Great War that I'VE written!' Gawd, he was good though wasn't he? Bernard
