Thought I'd give this one an extra PR boost.

Any forumites with interest in West Riding Regt or 49th Division should get themselves down to the Thiepval trench Excavations thread asap. Great story there for you guys.

Information being sought on John W Hatfield, West Riding Reg. No 19982. 49th Division Wounded then transfered to Labour Corp 376180.

Somme Association anxious to trace more info on this man .. artefact which may well be linked to him has been found.

Any chance of posting a link to the thread you mention.

Went there earlier this year with the successors to 49 (West Riding) Divisional Sigs Coy (plus some ex Hallams and Leeds Rifles), a number of us were a tad annoyed at how our predecessors have been written out of the history books even thou a member of the Leeds Rifles gained a VC during the first day of the Somme there

Sorry didn't intend that to be so negative. Just annoyed we visited the place and didn't pay our respects. Did the same the following day at Ypres (@49 memorial - see Royal Signals Wire Dec 2006), only a few of us realised - which I suppose is a good thing
