Capt. Geoffrey Chater MANUK served with the 7th Bn. K.O.Y.L.I. attached to the 61st Brg. His service record indicates that he left his unit on the 30 October 1917 and returned to England on 16 November 1917. I would like to try and find out where he had come from and what he'd been doing leading up to his return to England. Can anyone suggest a site or forum that gives a detailed account of what the K.O.Y.L.I. were involved with around October 1917? Many thanks. Liz

Liz,

If noone has any information then you might look at the war diary: -

WO 95/2127 7 Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry 1915 July - 1918 Feb.

Liz

The full position of the Regt was 5th Army:XIV Corps:20 Division:part of 61 Brigade.

If you take a peek at the Long Long Trail on this page, seek 20 Division, you will see that the the Div was engaged at Langemarck 16/18 Aug 1917,Menin Road 20/25 Sept and Polygon Wood 26Sept/3Oct. It doesn't appear in later battles. There is a suggestion that XIV Corps then moved on elsewhere so that might be the key, apart form reading the War Diary!

Best wishes
