alliekiwi Posted 2 November , 2006 Share Posted 2 November , 2006 Apologies if this is a silly question. As a matter of interest... if you were an ex-soldier from what is now the the Republic of Ireland, who'd served in the BEF during WW1 but were recieving a War Pension because of injuries, who continued paying your pension and where are the records kept once the Irish Free State (or whatever they called it at the time) broke away in the early 1920s? Obviously British pension records are kept...whereever they're kept. But what about Irish ones? Allie
Ken Devitt Posted 2 November , 2006 Share Posted 2 November , 2006 Hi Allie, Other than the men of the Connaught Rangers who were executed or mutinied, no pensions were paid by the Irish State. Pensions due to all ex-servicemen were paid by the British Government. Ken
alliekiwi Posted 3 November , 2006 Author Share Posted 3 November , 2006 Thanks, Ken, that's very helpful to know. Hopefuly we'll be able to trace someone through those records, since I think they are available, unlike the WW1 service files which are a bit of a hit and miss affair due to the Blitz.
