Uniform, regiment ID if possible....

Hi,

this is my first post, so go easy on me

Attached is a part of a photo of my great grandfather, Thomas Michael Moran, in full uniform. I am curentley trying to reduce the size of the actual photo so I may post this also. This was taken between 1917 and 1922. He died around 1924 from his war wounds. They lived in Aston in Birmingham, as far as I am aware.

Can anyone tell me info on the badge displayed etc...as I have no knowledge on this subject whatsoever. If anyone could tell me any info at all i.e who would wear such a hat, which regiment the badge belongs to etc... i would be most grateful.

Many Thanks

Wes

Wes,

A warm welcome to the Forum and despite the angle and slight blurring I'd say it was the Gloucestershire Regt.

Thanks for you help guys, and your swift responses.

Ive had a look at some photos online now of the gloucestershire regiment and it does seem to match up with the photo of my Great Grandfather.

I have now managed to shrink the file size down to post....here is the picture in full.

Can anyone tell me about whther anything he is wearing signifies rank or anything etc....

Many Thanks,

Wes

p.s apologies for those cricking their necks.

Although the lady is not holding a posy it struck me that it was a wedding photo. A quick look at FreeBMD gives Thomas Moran Aston 6d 1203 Elizabeth B Morris Aston 6d 1203 .

They were married quarter June 1915. Although it may be unlikely that under profession, on his marriage certificate, he gives his Regiment and just says soldier, it may still be worth getting it. Unfortunately I cannot add any more about the photo.
