Hello

I am looking for information on the steamer AFRICAN TRANSPORT sunk on 25 Jun 1918 by German submarine off Whitby.

Can anyone add anything to the loss?

Thank you.

Don,

The African Transport was a 4482 grt steamer built in 1913 that was torpedoed and sunk on June 25, 1918, 3 miles north from Whiby by the German submarine UB 88. The steamer was on a voyage from the Tyne to Falmouth with a cargo of coal when sunk. 3 killed.

Best wishes,

Michael

Don

I saw the same details today in my local Library, set out in a book called LLoyd's Losses 1914-1918.

It only shows minimal detail.

This book, for those who need to know contains a list, in a journal format,of all commercial ships sunk during the war. You can search either by date or by vessel name index.

Best wishes
