Michael Lowrey Posted 29 October , 2006 Share Posted 29 October , 2006 Don, The African Transport was a 4482 grt steamer built in 1913 that was torpedoed and sunk on June 25, 1918, 3 miles north from Whiby by the German submarine UB 88. The steamer was on a voyage from the Tyne to Falmouth with a cargo of coal when sunk. 3 killed. Best wishes, Michael
kin47 Posted 29 October , 2006 Author Share Posted 29 October , 2006 Hello Michael Many thanks. Are there any other details to this sinking? All best don
sotonmate Posted 9 November , 2006 Share Posted 9 November , 2006 Don I saw the same details today in my local Library, set out in a book called LLoyd's Losses 1914-1918. It only shows minimal detail. This book, for those who need to know contains a list, in a journal format,of all commercial ships sunk during the war. You can search either by date or by vessel name index. Best wishes Sotonmate
