Rob Bulloch Posted 27 October , 2006 Author Share Posted 27 October , 2006 Thanks Tim and Andy. I am very happy about this, to say the least!!! as you can see in the photgraphs the ribbons on the trio have folds in them, the reason for this being, this is the first time the ribbons have been attached to the medals. The boxes, medal envelopes and medal certificates are all in perfect condition, 20576. RSM John Watson never had the chance to wear them. John died of wounds on the 27th June 1915, while serving with the 10th Bn Canadian infantry (Alberta Regiment). and is Remembered with honour LE TREPORT MILITARY CEMETERY. John was a life time soldier. serving proudly for 21 years with the Royal Scots and the Northumberland Fusiliers serving in South Africa and India. John emigrated to Canada in 1911 and at the outbreak of war joined the Canadian Army in 1914. I am very proud, to be the custodian of these momentoes to a very proud brave soldier. but this group would never have been brought together, if it had not been for the diligence and dedication of members of this Forum, for the information on Johns past army service in the UK. pictures of his grave stone, and the graveyard. and of course his plaque!! On behalf of RSM John Watson. THANK YOU ALL !!!!! YOURS AYE. ROBERT. BULLOCH

ChrisC Posted 27 October , 2006 Share Posted 27 October , 2006 That is extremely cheering to see. The struggle to reunite medals, plaques and other memorabilia after 90 years is worth it. It's a picture - albeit a small one - of a man's service & life. And it won't end up on Ebay! Bloody well done to all concerned Chris C

Rob Bulloch Posted 28 October , 2006 Author Share Posted 28 October , 2006 always good to reunite medals - when did you last see an IGS and trio plus a plaque ? Thanks all for for the posts. Coldstreamer not only an IGS. but among his bits and pieces there is an album of pictures of all the places he had been. there are postcards from South Africa, so there may well be an intitlement to a South African pair to go with this group, I will have to get more research done, (Any help in the research would be most welcome!!!) The medal group as you can see is in mint condition, when I recieved them they were still in there boxes ribbons not attached, probably the third person to have touched them in 90 years, a very strange feeling, also with the items his Memorial Cross, the purple ribbon still in the box untouched, also a gold watch pocket watch, in a red satin bag, (the watch was not working but has since been sent for repair and is working fine) a gold coloured vesta with a selection of coins from India,South Africa.France and Belgium, a few picture postcards of individual soldiers, these were in an old envelope at the back of the large album, one of them must be John Watson but I do not know which one, more research required. Yours Aye Rob.
