Tingleff PoW Camp

Tingleff was a PoW camp near the Danish border and I think is now known as Tinglev and is actually in Denmark. The camp is not listed on the LLT or in Mrs P-H. It is listed on Cecile's site but with no information other than location. There are a few reports in WO161. It appears to have been a work camp attached to Gustrow and several men there were previously at Gustrow. One man buried in the local churchyard with some others is Rflm Samuel Johnson KRRC who died there in March 1915. (There was a post some time ago from someone who had a diary of William Fox KRRC which mentions S Johnson but there has been no reply to messages) Johnson's private effects were returned from Gustrow in 1915 so I assume that this was still his head camp. From the reports in WO161 the camp was mainly for work in draining marsh land but there is no mention of it post 1915. Note that the graves were not relocated after the war. Does anyone know anything more about the camp and if it was closed in 1915 when the marsh was adequately drained?

The camp was still in operation at the end of May 1915. I have an envelope sent by Rfmn Border of the 1st KRRC, he gives his address as Tingleff, Schleswig, Germany. The front of the envelope has a Gustrow censor mark and a Gustrow postmark dated 29th May 1915 which fits in with Gustrow being the head camp.

The latest date I have is 13th July 1915 when Henry Painting of the KRRC left. There were nine British deaths there, the last on 30th April 1915. A whole bunch of KRRC were sent there of which four died.

The only Border of the KRRC I could find is 7288 Albert Border is this what you have?
