HOSPITAL SHIP - GUILDFORD-CASTLE 1915

Can anybody point me in the direction of anything to do with this Hospital Ship & where it was in July of 1915.

Put HMHS GUILDFORD CASTLE in Google and you will get some info.

I found a picture of a sister ship,same tonnage etc. That too was a Hospital Ship in WW1.

Forgot to say that the Guildford Castle resumed it's duties on the Cape Mail Service to South Africa in 1919. It seems that it was sunk in 1933 after a collision. NFD at the moment.

Thanks to you all for the information, My reason being I have some medals to an AB who born 1889 and enlisted as a Boy 1n 1907 then Died of epilectic mania on board guildford-Castle, bit of a rum young lad in his time 7 days in Cells in late 1907 & another 42 Days detention in 1911. Thanks again Bob

I realise this is an extremely old post and that Bob (Saints & Sinners) hasn't been active for a few years, however, just in case....

 

I'm presently doing some research on the Guildford Castle, and came across this thread while googling - and as the War Diary mentions this particular case I thought I might as well put up the details:

 

July 23rd [1915] ADEN - Embarked 6 British Officers and 36 rank & file for England.  Also 1 AB seaman suffering from epilectic mania - he died at 4 am the following morning. 

7.30 pm left Aden.
