GTLawson Posted 25 October , 2006 Share Posted 25 October , 2006 On a recent visit to Hoylake to see C.S.Jagger’s memorial there I was most upset to find it scrawled with Graffiti. I wrote immediately to the Wirral Council and they have advised that the graffiti has been removed. If any members visit Hoylake in the near future I would be pleased to hear that the writing has in fact been taken away. I also suggested that a sign showing the whereabouts of and how to access the memorial would be useful. I found the whole site neglected and depressing. I realise that it is not practical to do so but it would be splendid if this memorial could be moved elsewhere. This is one of Jagger’s best works and our nation should make some effort to look after it. Apart from the 1st and 2nd World Wars there was also mention of a soldier killed in Iraq in 2003 so even more reason for it to be shown respect. elgingero Posted 18 March , 2007 Share Posted 18 March , 2007 My GGrandfather, who fought in WW1, helped transport the bronze figures up the hill for this monument on his Coal Merchants cart. Upsetting to see such mindless vandalism, and lack of respect. I should have added a photograph to my posting of yesterday
Nigel Marshall Posted 25 March , 2007 Share Posted 25 March , 2007 Is this the memorial on Grange Hill? If so Frank Lister VC is among those commemorated on it. Nigel
