sotonmate Posted 20 October , 2006 Share Posted 20 October , 2006 Chris (or may I call you Old Sweat. Sir ?) As you probably know HMS PEMBROKE was/is a Shore Establishment in Chatham. It is possible that he worked there in the Sick Bay (as he was a SBA !) or he could have been seconded to small ships running from the Naval Base, his substantive posting being HMS PEMBROKE. At that time there was a Flu epidemic sweeping the nation (Spanish Flu) and this took a huge toll on the population. On Tuesday of this week I was at the NA and came across ships and military with an appalling amount of death around 1918-19 due to this blight. So it is more than a possibility that he was a victim. Sorry I can't be of any further help. Best wishes Sotonmate
